When rainy seasone come, the most commoly disease in dog is parvo virus infection (FPV). Virus attack gastrointestinal system, and highly contagious. Beside that, it can affect heart muscle and may cause heart damage in longer period. Puppies and unvaccinated dog are susceptible to this virus.

The major symptoms associated with the intestinal form of a canine parvo virus infection include bloody diarrhea, lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and weight loss. The intestinal form of CPV affects the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, vomiting, and diarrhea. It make dog severe dehydration and weak from lack of protein and fluid absorption.

Virus is resistant to heat, cold, humidity, and drying, and can live in ground soil for up to a year. In rainy season, it’s easier to spread the virus through the flow of water. Contaminated land is from infected dog which secretes faeces or saliva. So, it can infect the health dog directly or undirectly. The virus is readily transmitted directly by contact between health dog and infected dog. Heavy concentration of the virus are found in an infected dog’s stool. The virus can also be brought into a dog’s environment by contaminated tools such as cage, food dishes, and drinking bottle.

Diagnosis is made through physical examination, clinical signs and also laboratory test such as complete blood count and CPV Test Kit. Severe dehydration will lead to death in 1-3 days. It’s therefore, it’s important to pick up your dog to animal clinic if show same symptoms above to get emergency aid. Basically treatment is fluid therapy to resolve dehydration status. If there is anemia condition, blood transfusion is needed. Another medication are anti nausea, antibiotic, hardener faeces drug, and vitamin. When vomiting stop, it’s easier to give prescription food to give more energy. Prevention is the only way to ensure that a puppy or dog remain healthy. Approriate vaccination should be performed starting at 6 weeks after weaning from the mother. It’s important that puppies get primary vaccination, because there will be dcreasing of maternal antibody which getting from colostrum.
