Leni Calici Virus (FCV) is one of more common infectious respiratory disease. Virus will spread widely rainy season in Indonesia. CAlici virus is highly contagious, can infect healt cat by droplet in the air that contain this virus. The most susceptible cat are kitten and unvaccinated cat. Incubation period, time virus come into contact a health cat until showing clinical sign, is about 2-6 days. The symptomps involve ulcer in the gum and tongue, and show hypersalivation, loss of appetite, ear discharge, nasal discharge, lameness, difficult breathing, fever, eye discharge, sometimes pneumonia. This virus has high mortality rate and make drop the immunity system of body.



The initially treatment for this disease is intravenous fluids to solve dehydration status, result of loss appetite. In addition, medication such as antibiotic, topical ointment for ulcer in the mouth, ear drop, and vitamins are needed. Since cats with a respiratory infection will have decrease sense of smell, they often have a decrease appetite, feeding a highly palatable canned food may help to improve their appetite. If you find similar clinical sign above, pick up your cat as soon as possible to the animal clinic that near of you and it will make succesfull treatment. But if you’re late to pick up, the disease will be more severe and death.

Prevention that we can do, is doing vaccination to our cat especially kitten due to right schedule in animal clinic. The first vaccination is two (2) months old and the booster vaccination next month. After vaccination, the kitten will get antibody, which protect their self to the virus. Eventhough the virus infect vaccinated cat, it will recovery fastly because the antibody has protect itself.
